Friday June 5th - 10am to 4pm : Join the Earl Beatty Eco-team and the Greening Committee and plant the Learning Circle Garden

We've all waited a long time - first the plan, then the removal of the old hedge, then the creation of the bed, and most recently, the learning circle itself was added just a few weeks ago. Now it is time to plant the surrounding garden! Bring your gloves, bring a shovel and a watering can. Prepare to get dirty and get the trees and shrubs in the ground.

Earl Beatty Fun Fair & Ball Hockey Tournament - a great success!

Thank you to everyone that volunteered their time at the Fun Fair & Ball Hockey Tournament on Sat May 30th. It was a great day, everyone had a good time, the weather co-operated, and approximately $12,000 was raised. Many thanks as well to all our sponsors and donors who kindly donated to our event.

We couldn’t have done it without you!

Follow-up Report from Janet Davis’ Environmental Day May 16th, 2009

It was an overcast and rainy day, but the Earl Beatty EcoTeam showed that a grey day couldn’t damper their spirits and enthusiasm. The team carried two huge boxes of discarded batteries and a small assortment of ink cartridges to be
properly recycled. Cameron Smith poured the batteries into the large bins. The Janet Davis Charitable BBQ made a deal with the EcoTeam: if they sold hot dogs and drinks during the day, they could keep the proļ¬ts. The team raised a total of $517.10, a fantastic success! Congratulations and thanks to all the volunteers: Sian, Margery, Lisa, Sheila, Peter, Chris, Sam, Pam and Liza. Great work!

Honest Earl's Bargain Basement Sale and Cafe, Saturday, April 18th, 2009

The day began with bright sunshine and nervous volunteers wondering if people would come on such a beautiful day. And they did! Our first customer peaked in at 8:50am - a good ten minutes before we were slated to open. Perhaps it was our striking new signs posted along the street and the great banner hanging over the Wolverleigh doors. Even so, the sale was bustling by 10am, gently used clothing, the delicious organic, fair trade coffee (thanks again to Small World Cafe) and fabulous baked goods (thanks so much bakers!) practically flew out the door.

The Earl Beatty Greening Committee and a host of determined volunteers rang up sales to the tune of $1300.00! Fantastic! Unsold clothing went to a variety of venues, including Ages and Stages (where we can continue to make money with our account, #197), Massey House, Applewood community clothing exchange. The winter stuff is in storage for next fall. Hope to see you then.

Community Clean Up , Saturday, April 25, 2009

Betty late than never, we can't forget to announce that Janet Davis' Community Clean-Up at Earl Beatty was a smashing success. The sun shone as scheduled and we all had a great time! Thanks to Liza for organizing everything and for all the volunteers who helped out.
