Itinerant music programs are on the chopping block
The Toronto
District School Board is slashing the Itinerant Music Program ( Band, Strings, Vocal, Recorder, Steel Pan Drums) before the Trustees are informed or able
to vote on this drastic change of policy.
To save a small portion of
their budget, they are planning to drastically reduce the quality of music
education for students by laying off the expert music educators. It's outrageous
and shortsighted. Study and after study show the benefits of music to our development, our ability to learn, and our quality of life.
Earl Beatty uses these programs each year, and we will miss them terribly if they are taken away!
It only takes a minute to sign the petition below, and your support will make a difference.

A Big Thank You to All the Community Clean Up Helpers
Through wind and snow and chilly temperatures, the April
20th, 2013 Community Clean Up got the neighbourhood almost spotless! Thanks to
the families that came out despite practically gale force winds and blowing
snow to tidy the school yards, the garden, and the streets that serve Earl
Beatty School and Community Centre.
In celebration, the daffodils are raising their yellow
faces, and the service berries (or Saskatoon berries - depending on what part
of the country you're from) are just about to burst into white blossoms.
Little and big, rake in one hand, hot chocolate in the
other - we all did our part. Thanks for all the hard work.

Community Clean Up Day
Saturday, April 20th, 2013
Join Earl Beatty School, Community Centre and Eco-team from 10 am to noon on Saturday, April 20th to help clean up our neighbourhood. Since 2006, this group of dedicated volunteers have scoured the school yard and surrounding area between Coxwell and Glebemount, Milverton and Danforth. We pick up trash, remove posters from utility poles, and sweep up the sidewalks. Since it's spring, we also spruce up our garden - we prune, cut back perennials and rake out the beds in preparation for the new spring growth.
Although the City provides trash bags and some gloves, bring gloves, grocery bags, green waste bags, rakes and pruning shears if you have them. Young children should work with their parent or other caregivers.
Trash bags are put out at the curb on Wolverleigh for pick up the same day.
If you have any questions, call Liza at 416-425-5289

Earl Beatty Logo Contest!
Our school needs a new logo!
We are asking for submissions from our creative and talented parents by April 19th.
Current Earl Beatty logo on team t-shirts |
We are creating new t-shirts that will be sold at our Fun Fair, Kindergarten info night, and at various times throughout the school year. Not only will they be ready just in time for summer, but we will also be able to use the t-shirts for school teams and groups, field trips, and all around school spirit! Students, parents, and teachers will have a chance to vote for their favourite design!
Old Earl Beatty Logo |
1. Please make your design available in JPEG form.
2. Use one colour for the design.
3. "Earl Beatty Public School" must be somewhere on your design.
4. Our school teams are called the "Earl Beatty Bulldogs". This would be great to incorporate into your design so that we can use the shirts for sports teams.
5. Please keep in mind that our students are aged 4 yrs (JK) to 13 yrs (Gr 8) so a design that would be suitable for all ages will be the best.
6. Please email all submissions to sphilcox@rogers.com by APRIL 19, 2013. No exceptions.
If you have any further questions please email Sheila Philcox at sphilcox@rogers.com
We are looking forward to seeing your creations!

Earl Beatty Fun Fair
This
year, the 9th annual Earl Beatty Public School Fun Fair will
be held on May 25th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is a
partnership between the school, the Earl Beatty Community Centre, and Beatty
Buddies Daycare.
It is a day of family fun including a ball hockey tournament,
inflatable games, face painting, kids raffles, a barbeque, and a bake
sale. It is our hope that we will build on the success of last year and
raise even more funds to help bring much needed resources into our children’s
classrooms and playground.
We hope to see you at this fun-filled day!
Want to help? Volunteers are always needed!

Ted Talks are Great for Parents and Kids
Most adults are familiar with the short videos put out by Ted Talks. They cover topics from science to philosophy—and everything in between.
Recently, Ted Talks have introduced new "playlists," including Talks for Kids. Check it out here.
There are also lots of good talks on parenting issues. Here is a thought-provoking one by Gever Tulley, titled 5 dangerous things you should let your kids do.
