Eco-Leadership Camp This Summer
This year, TREC Education (Toronto Renewable
Energy Cooperative) has teamed up with the Kew Beach Public School
Community and the Bluffs Advocate to offer a unique eco-leadership camp
for students aged 9-13 years (Grades 4-8) in
our Ward.
Campers can register for one 1-week session. Sessions will run the last two weeks in August.
So that the camp is available to anyone who is interested, bursaries
are being offered to students who may need financial assistance. Bussing and lunch is also provided.
Registration forms and more information can also be found on the website:

Make Your Voice Heard for Safety!
On Monday mornings, the large City of Toronto front-loader garbage truck arrives at Earl Beatty between 8:30 and 8:45 to empty the garbage bin that is located just outside of the school library.
To do this, the truck must drive up over the sidewalk and onto the school property right beside the main entrance for the school and the daycare at the busiest time of the day. Students and parents are walking all about and cars are parked on both sides of the street for drop-off. It is dangerous to have such a large vehicle at the school just as the bell goes.
PLEASE make your voice heard and call the City at 311 and ask for the garbage pick up to be rescheduled to a time when students are in class. If enough people advocate for change now we should see a safer school next September!

Get Caught Wearing Yours!
How Far Will We Go?
This
summer when you are on vacation take a photo of yourself wearing your
Earl Beatty T-shirt and send it to us!
In the fall we will make a
collage of our students wearing our EB t-shirts around our province and
around the world! How far will our students go? France? China? Cuba?
Who knows?
We will put out a reminder on the blog and in the first
newsletter in the fall but if you want to email photos as you take them
please send to Sheila Philcox at sphilcox@rogers.com.
Have a great summer everyone!

East York Canada Day Volunteers Needed
Celebrate Canada Day!
The East York Toronto Canada Day Corporation is a non-profit organization that plans and runs a parade from Leaside to Stan Wadlow Park, the fun activities at Stan Wadlow Park, and the Fireworks in the evening on July 1.
It takes lots of volunteers to make this a successful event, so on behalf of the East York Toronto Canada Day Corporation we would like to invite everyone interested to volunteer for the day to help us have an awesome day. Students can earn their volunteer hours by participating in this event.

Teacher Luncheon on June 26th
On Wednesday, June 26th the Earl
Beatty Parent Council will be putting on a Teacher Luncheon for our
fantastic teachers.
If you would like to contribute food or drink to this event your generosity would be much appreciated! The EB staff were so touched by our "welcome back after Xmas" luncheon that it would be a great way for us to show them, as they head off for summer, how much they mean to us. Cook up your favourite dish or contribute salads, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, or sweet treats. If you don't have time to cook, we also need beverages (sparkly water, juices, or pop).
Please contact Sheila Philcox at sphilcox@rogers.com if you can help us out so we can make sure we have everything we need for the event.
